Map Projection

Map projection is a attempt to portray the surface of earth as plane. Result of Map projections are Con formality, distance, direction scale and Area. Let us have a brief explanation about these distortion.

Con Formality: When scale on the map is same in any direction, then it is called conformal projection.
Here meridians intersect at right angles i.e, line of longitude and line of latitude.

Distance: A map is a equidistant when it portrays distance from centre of projection to any other areas.

Direction: A map preserves direction when azimuth portrays distance correctly in all direction.

Scale: A scale should be same as it is in real. That is the distance mentioned in map should match with real distance.

Area: A map portrays areas that should have equal area.
